Description:
Dark eyes, dark hair, olive complexion. Gavin is average height and average build and appears to be in his thirties. His fake birth certificate gives his age as 31. His face is quite boyish and he has a smile that lights up the room. He wears his hair longish, but not so long that he could pull it into a little ponytail. No piercings, no tattoos, no remarkable scars.
Personality:
Gavin has three parts to his persona. The Outer Gavin is friendly and has a quiet kindness. His gentle words and warm smile give the semblance of trustworthiness and invite you to confide in this man despite the weird creepy vibes you get from him from his being a demon. He makes this personality easy to trust and easy to love, which causes many to feel guilty about their natural dislike of him, and this guilt is the primary driving force in their decision to put their gut feelings aside and open themselves up to this man. It’s a little like coffee and cigarettes. Most smokers and coffee drinkers didn’t originally like the taste of coffee or tobacco. This is why they’re called “acquired tastes.” Outer Gavin is an acquired taste.
The Inner Gavin is fierce and controlled by his emotions. Bright fires of jealousy burn in his breast, and in his youth these emotions got him into considerable trouble. His jealousy, lust, and anger almost cost him his life on more than one occasion. This is why he went away for forty years, to learn the discipline he lacked. When he returned to Elveron he was a changed man—he had acquired Middle Gavin. (Note: The Inner Gavin, the one with this blazing sun of emotional energy, is buried deeply and doesn’t surface hardly ever.)
Middle Gavin is cool and collected and this is the Gavin that tortures people psychologically and physically. When Middle Gavin comes out people suddenly remember why they were uneasy around him at first, but by the time Middle Gavin makes his appearance it’s often too late.
These two Gavins, Outer Gavin and Middle Gavin, work in tandem with one another. He lures them in with his friendly overtures and warm smile of the Outer Gavin, then proceeds to poison them, rape them, hack them to pieces, et cetera with Middle Gavin. Gavin can’t often he as extreme with his victims as he would like, as he can’t afford to arouse suspicion, but as a masochist he doesn’t mind torturing himself by forcing himself to hold back. He usually has to settle for petty crimes, like breaking hearts, or breaking up homes.
He enjoys spending hours and hours of his life plotting and scheming, scheming and plotting. Gavin has enormous patience and frightening persistence. He is a danger not only to young women, but older women, men, and especially children. Gavin’s job as a high school teacher allows him close contact with impressionable young minds, and he makes the most of this golden opportunity.
Background:
After returning from his mysterious forty-year hiatus in the Fringe, Gavin, who was known as Pholus at the time, set to work preparing a new life for himself in Kalis. He spent several years contacting various angels and demons, asking and giving favors, all in secret, all very slowly, so that his activities wouldn’t be detected. Gavin eventually ended with a teaching gig at Sunbeam High.
After that was secured he abruptly disappeared from Elveron. Gavin killed most of the people who had helped him so that they couldn’t reveal where he was and what he was doing. Since he wasn’t terribly important in Elveron, and had no wife or family, and he wasn’t fleeing from any charges, no search parties were ever sent out after him. If anyone wonders where he is, they just write his disappearance off as another weird “meditation in the desert” that Gavin must be undertaking. “He did it once before, why wouldn’t he do it again? He’ll turn up eventually,” type of thinking.
However, if either Elveron or Tilatari knew what Gavin was planning, they would be searching for him frantically. During his time in the Fringe Gavin met some interesting people with some interesting political views. Gavin joined their highly secretive terrorist organization, known as Pandora. Hardly anyone knows of their existence. Partum ex Ruina, Creation from Destruction, is their motto. Pandora wants to destroy Elveron and Tilatari, believing that the resulting chaos is absolutely necessary for the future to be forged.
Gavin’s role in this? What he’s doing here in Kalis? What Pandora is planning to make him do? You’ll have to wait and see!
Other:Where on his timeline I'm planning on starting to role-play with him is three years after his arrival in Kalis. So he's been teaching at the high school for three years, he has established some relationships with the people around him but is still rather new and is still learning the city and sending out roots.
Another thing: Gavin speaks with an English accent and pretends to be a foreigner to explain why he might not be as familiar with some things as he should be. He grew up in Elveron, not Kalis, and though he received instruction and has studied humans and how they function, there are occasionally little things that he misses. Like gas stations. He had never asked his teacher how a gas station worked and had to be helped by some friendly woman the first time. The foreigner story excuses those little things. In that incident he said that he hadn't owned a car in England, she laughed and told him it was good he hadn't learned how to drive on the wrong side of the road. Things like that.
