This interview appeared in Corporate Newsroom #6. Other topics in the issue: a full-time corporate influencer for OTTO, a criminologist calls for more police on the internet, an overview of the CommTech market and much more. When and why did the desire or need arise to organize corporate communications as a newsroom? Schurin : The reorganization of BILLA and MERKUR was due from 2020. First the two companies were merged and then the brands.
In the course of this, BILLA's previously independent internal communications - a complex and crucial area in a trading company - was integrated into corporate communications. We were therefore forced to position ourselves in a more agile manner than with the previous scheme of separate disciplines such as external and internal communication and public affairs. Due to the large-scale reorganization and brand merger, the time window was favorable - there was an awareness throughout the company that reorganization also meant new interfaces and that existing structures were being questioned. At the same time, it was clear that resources had to remain essentially the same. So it was clear that a way had to be found that would at least ensure consistently good effects and results while being more efficient.
