To Whom It May Concern,
I am a role player who has fallen out of the game and is hoping to get back into it. I haven't participated in a ProBoards RPG in a long time and I miss it. I've been keeping an eye open for possible sites to join. Due to my busy schedule, I don't have time to join sites willy-nilly and find the right one for me through trial and error; I have a checklist that I use to weed out sites I know won't work out, and so far every one has had something wrong with it.
This place has most of the things that I want: it's new, fairly small (I feel lost in sites with loads of members), and I like the plot. I was thinking that this was it until I read this site's current set of rules and found the flaw. My issue is with Rule 9, which reads:
I am reading this to mean no use of profanity, no sexual encounters, and no graphic violence. If I am understanding this rule incorrectly, and these things are permitted in IC posts, go ahead and stop reading now and simply reply to this with something along the lines of, "Nope! Don't worry about it! Register and let's get going with some graphic role play!" I would be happy to comply.
If not, however, and this rule means that I really do need to keep content to PG 13 standards, I regret I will be unable to join this site. Adult language, sexual encounters, and violence are all a part of normal life. These things are an even bigger part of RPG life, where things are highly dramatized (and rightly so), and even more so in a RPG of this nature. Angels and demons? And war? That's dark stuff. It would be silly to censor out what I would call the best parts of this plot/scenario that you have here.
I understand that you may feel you must comply with the ProBoards Terms of Service. As someone who has been making and playing ProBoards-hosted RPGs for several years (minus my recent spell of inactivity, of course), let me assure you that this is essentially a non-issue. My sites contained R rated and X rated material and I never so much as received a warning let alone had a site deleted.
So please reconsider Rule 9. We ("we" meaning myself and the administrator, whom this appeal is primarily directed to, but also all members of this site) both have something to gain here. I want to join a site and I want it to be this one. I benefit by having that itch of mine scratched. And you benefit by gaining a new member, one who is literate, passionate, and experienced not only as a role player, but in the development of skins and images, of administrative tasks, and coming up with additional plot devices to keep members engaged. To risk sounding arrogant: I would be a valuable asset.
I'll be checking back at regular intervals to read your response. I am in no hurry and would prefer that you took your time considering my proposal instead of rushing to post a response to have this issue closed. If you have any questions I am happy to answer them, and if you have concerns I would be happy to discuss those with you.
If you are worried that this post will bring you unwanted attention from ProBoards officials, go ahead and delete it. I don't mean to cause you unnecessary worry or discomfort. I do, however, wish to cause you the necessary amount of discomfort to encourage action. This is why I chose to post this publicly as opposed to making an account and contacting the necessary individuals privately. I have found this produces a healthy amount of pressure, and pressure is required for change.
(And forgive me for continually addressing the admin with the singular "you"; this message is intended for all members of this site, since this involves all of you. I'm doing it for efficiency's sake.)
Thank you for your time. I await your response.
